Mom, 31, Dies From H1N1 Weeks After Giving Birth to First Child

A new mother died from H1N1 days after giving birth to her first child.
Susan Ford, 31, of Leigh in Greater Manchester, England, was 35 weeks pregnant when she was admitted to hospital with severe flu symptoms.Her condition deteriorated rapidly and her baby was delivered safely the next day by emergency Caesarean, weighing 5-and-a-half pounds.Doctors put Ford on a ventilator after confirming she had the H1N1 virus and she was given Tamiflu.
But her condition deteriorated and she became gravely ill with pneumonia.She died 18 days after daughter Poppy was born.
The baby was expected to leave Salford Royal Hospital with Ford's fiance John Freeman, 26, Tuesday.
"She was looking forward to being a mother," Ford's mother Wynne said. "The staff at the hospital did everything they could for Susan and I cannot fault them."
